The Simple Morning Skincare Ritual

Should You Wash Your Face in the Morning?

Everyone’s skin is different which begs the question of whether or not you need to wash your face in the morning.

If your skin is oily or acne prone then you’ll most likely benefit from cleansing your skin twice a day to prevent any breakouts and excess oil. However, if your skin is dry or sensitive it might be best to skip cleansing and instead just work with a simple swipe of toner on your skin or a splash of cool water as to not strip your skin of its natural oils.

I recommend the PurErb Bulgarian Rose Soothing Toner, it’s a hydrating mist with Bulgarian rose oil and Edelweiss stem cells to soothe and soften sensitized, aging skin so even morning face washers can use this in their routines. The sensuous aromas of the Bulgarian rose and Sandalwood will calm your mind, which will also help in your night ritual.

I’m sure we’ve all experienced those long days and nights regretfully forgetting to cleanse before bed only to wake up in a panic realizing we’ve slept with our makeup on. In situations like these it’s absolutely necessary to double cleanse skin in the morning as there’s potential for pores to clog.

SPF

Ah, we’ve finally come to the most crucial step to your daily morning ritual, SPF! Yes, you do need to be wearing sunscreen everyday despite the weather, as even on cloudy days, up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate the skin. Another common misconception is that not everyone has a need for sunscreen, but despite your age, race, or gender, anyone is able to get skin cancer. A good sunscreen to keep your skin protected from the UV rays and premature aging is the EltaMD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40, a lightweight SPF moisturizer with hyaluronic acid for smoothness, softness, and decreased appearance of wrinkles.

The Simple Night Skincare Ritual

Double Cleansing

The best way to end a day and relax yourself for bed is your nightly skin ritual.

Throughout the day there has been so much buildup on skin from SPF, makeup, and oils we want to rid off our face. Shining light on one of the stars of your night ritual, double cleansing. Double cleansing is just what it sounds like, cleansing your face twice.

First using an oil-based cleanser then following with a regular-based cleanser. Oil cleansers draw out the impurities such as sebum, SPF, and pollutants then following with the regular cleanser will cleanse water based debris such as sweat and dirt. Essentially, oil and regular cleansers are a power duo that must work together.

For an oil cleanser go for the PurErb Deep Cleansing Oil, it deeply dissolves and washes away surface impurities hydrating your skin and ridding excess sebum. For your regular cleanser, follow with the Sonage Soothing Cleansing Creme, a gentle non-foaming cleanser that will work for most skin types and conditions. This cleanser is meant to reduce excess oil and unclog pores, without stripping skin.

Exfoliants

Our skin is covered in about 15-20 layers of dead skin and consistently shed while being replaced every two weeks. However, exfoliating helps speed up the slower process of skin shedding, that done without exfoliation can cover your skin in a layer of skin that is too thick leading it to appear dull, uneven, and flaky.

There are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation is done by buffing away dead skin cells using grainy products or tools. It’s important to remember to be kind and gentle to your skin rather than rubbing harshly. The Diana Ralys Charcoal Microfoliant brightens, refreshens, and exfoliates your skin with crystalized walnut shells, this product works effectively for acne-prone or dull skin.

Chemical exfoliants help cells shed in an indirect way and react with the skin safely removing the top layer of dead skin rather than using friction to do so. The Diana Ralys Enzyme Refresher has a blend of fruit enzymes, rich in antioxidants that work to prevent cell damage within the skin by fighting against free radicals. It helps to keep the skin flexible and firm because it increases collagen synthesis and suits all skin types, especially sensitive skin that cannot do physical.

Toners

Following cleanser and/or exfoliants we move onto toners to encourage skin to maintain its balanced state. Many are unsure what toner really is meant for but it is actually the first leave-on step to hydrate and treat, as well as prep you for better absorption of remaining products in your ritual. If you’ve used toner before you’ve most likely seen even more dirt and residue come off your skin that even double cleansing cannot get to. For application many prefer to sprinkle some toner onto their hands and tap directly onto skin as others will gently swipe across their face using a cotton pad.

Serums

Despite what your skin type is, there is always a serum for you. Serums are made of smaller molecules that penetrate deeply into the skin and deliver a high concentration of active ingredients.

Most skin types and serums are good to use in a morning ritual as well as your night. It is best applied on damp skin, so apply immediately after your toner. For vitamin C serums, the Sonage C Shield Smart Serum fades appearance of dark spots and even skin as well as protecting skin against blue-light photoreceptors. For dry, stressed skin the Le Mieux Derma Relief Serum provides instant relief.

Moisturizer

Last but not least and the second most essential and relaxing part of your ritual, your moisturizer. Moisturizers need to be last in the ritual as nothing is going to get through this thick product.

You  shouldn’t be using SPF to bed to prevent clogging pores, you’ll need a night cream or night moisturizer. For sensitive or sensitized skin try the Sonage High Endurance Cream, a powerful antioxidant-rich moisturizer building immunity, combating environmental aging, and calming redness.

However, if you need a lightweight moisturizer the Sonage Botanica Souffle Creme will nourish and replenish your skin. If you suffer from dry, dehydrated, or mature skin the Sonage Lumenez Vitamin Rich Creme with vitamins and antioxidants for a beautiful long-lasting glow.

If you never feel hydration from your moisturizer the Le Mieux 24 Hr. Age Defying Cream’s rich and creamy formula will give you lasting hydration for up to 24 hours.

Relax and Rejoice

By the end of your rituals, both morning and night you should feel rejuvenated and cleared from anxious thoughts and stress in your mind and body. This time of self-love will have you feeling ready to face the day or relaxed for well deserved sleep.
