What Are Back Facials?
In need of a facial, not only for your face? Our face is pampered and cared for the most - but what about your back?
While the summer months bring excitement they can also bring out many of our insecurities.
Having back acne can hinder us from being able to do certain activities or dress the way we want because of our skin concerns being too exposed. It’s uncomfortable and can be extremely frustrating.
Back acne is a common struggle among virtually everyone, so trust that no one is judging you for experiencing it. However, what isn’t common is the knowledge of how to treat your back skin concerns.
Back facials’ whole purpose is to soothe and tend to the skin on your back the same way you would for your face. This will help maintain your skin all over for the perfect summer glow you desire.
While continuing treatment with simple everyday at-home products is needed; back facials target the hard-to-reach areas we aren’t able to get to ourselves.
If you’re not dealing with back acne, this benefits you as well! Back facials cater to more than acne concerns, so let’s dive into them.
Benefits
Acne Concerns
Back acne is way more common than you may think. It causes many people to feel discomfort on their skin as well as socially and mentally. It can feel as if everyone is looking at your acne and can damage one’s confidence. Back acne is usually the effect of hormones, excess sebum, and buildup in the pores causing inflammation. It can be difficult while trying to get rid of this acne, so a back treatment is a helpful start.
This will involve the same cleansing treatment you would get for your face, including exfoliation and extractions. The results will leave your back smoother and clearer than before. You’ll feel more comfortable and confident than before wearing your summer clothes and going to the beach.
Dry Skin
Experiencing dry, cracked, and itchy skin? Your skin is likely in need of some serious moisture and barrier repairing. Having extremely dry skin can be uncomfortable and even painful. This typically can come from low moisture in the air, harsh product ingredients, or taking showers that are piping hot. This concern isn’t a serious issue and can be solved through some lifestyle changes and incorporations.

Aside from these changes, a back treatment can help in adding nutrients to your skin to soften and moisturize. During back treatment, your skin will be exfoliated and hydrated with the necessary toner and moisturizer. You should leave feeling less pain or itchiness and overall rejuvenation.
Relaxation
Whether you commonly receive a facial or not; we all know that probably the best part of a facial is the ultimate relaxation. Wherever your stress is coming from, a facial can help in bringing a sense of calm to your mind and body. At-home facials can never compare to a professionally done facial in a relaxing setting. Back facials can be especially relaxing as we tend to hold plenty of tension in this area of the body. Your muscles will feel the tension releasing throughout the neck, shoulders, and back from the massaging motions.
Now that we know what back facials can benefit - how exactly does it work?
At Simple Healing Space, I offer this as a 30-minute add-on treatment to your one-hour facial. This is the signature Simple Healing Space facial but targeting the skin on your back.
This treatment begins with a double cleanse from the neck to the hips to give a more thorough cleanse and allow the following products to penetrate more effectively. Then the back is exfoliated to repair the skin barrier, which as we’ve learned before this exfoliating process helps in shedding the dead skin faster to make way for cell regeneration. I then will apply steamed towels to soften the skin.
When needed, extractions are performed in areas of congestion. This is then followed by a relaxing massage on the entire back to heal areas of inflammation. I then apply a mask appropriate to your current skin condition while your arms and hands are massaged. The mask is then removed with steamed towels. Finally, we bring back optimal hydration with the appropriate toner and moisturizer. I will also include sunscreen if necessary.
Leaving this treatment, your back will feel refreshed and smooth. Due to the severity of your skin concern, it may take multiple sessions to fully heal your skin. Aside from the aesthetics, you may also want to continue to add this back treatment for relaxation purposes.
